About Us

Originally founded by Derek Hasted in 1988, to complement his teaching on Adult Education Courses, Hampshire Guitar Workshop offers classical guitarists, aged 18+, a unique opportunity to play music together as a large ensemble. From 2023 onward, the workshop has been run by the new leadership of Peter Rogers BMus (hons) Dip. ABRSM.

We play music from standard notation (not tablature), so some proficiency in reading music in treble clef is required. Pieces are arranged into three or four parts, differentiated to suit a range of ability levels - pick your part and play!

The Workshop Collection forms the anthology of our repertoire, spanning an eclectic variety of musical genres, periods as well as arrangements of pop music pieces.

Every year, we play two public concerts - Summer and Christmas - raising funds for good causes. These have recently included:

Dementia UK - £428 (Christmas 2024)

Motor-Neurone Disease Association - £375 (Summer 2024)

Hampshire Air Ambulance - £364 (Christmas 2023)

Two Saints - £424 (Summer 2023)

We meet fortnightly, during school term times on Thursday evenings, at Lovedean Village Hall. Our sessions start at 7:30pm (Doors open from 7pm) and conclude by 10pm, with a half-an-hour tea break in between.

Your first Workshop session is a trial session, free of charge. Thereafter,

each session is currently £8.00 per person, paid in cash on the evening. Alternatively, Workshop members receive a discount of around 10%, if paid in advance for a whole term.

Please get in touch, via the contact us page, for further information or to organise your free trial session.
